(a) the number of residential schools opened so far in the tribal/rural areas of the country during the Eleventh Five Year Plan, State-wise;
(b) the details of the Central schemes under operation for promotions of residential schools for education of tribals in the country, State-wise;
(c) the details of financial assistance provided by the Union Government to State Governments and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in this regard during each of the last three years, State-wise, NGOs-wise
(d) whether the Government proposes to set up more residential schools in the tribal areas of the country including Maharashtra during the Eleventh Five Year Plan; and
(e) if so, the details thereof, State-wise? |

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF TRIBAL AFFAIRS (DR. TUSHAR A. CHAUDHARY)
(a) : The data on the number of residential schools opened so far in the tribal/rural areas of the country is not maintained in this Ministry.
(b) to (c) : The Ministry provides funds for the promotion of residential schools for Scheduled Tribes students under the following schemes;
(i) Scheme of Grant-in-aid to Voluntary Organisations working for the welfare of Scheduled Tribes
(ii) Scheme of Strengthening Education among ST Girls in Low Literacy Districts
(iii) Establishment of Ashram Schools in Tribal sub-plan areas, and
(iv) Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) as part of the grants under Article 275(1) of the Indian Constitution.
This Ministry has sanctioned 100 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) under Article 275(1) in different parts of the country till the end of theX Plan period. During theXI Plan, no additional EMRS has been sanctioned. The details of grants released to the State Governments/NGOs during the XI Five Year Plan in respect of residential schools mentioned at(i),
(ii) and
(iii) are at Annexures I , II and III.
(d) & (e) : Establishment of Residential Schools in the tribal areas of the country, under any of the different schemes of the Ministry are sanctioned based on complete proposals submitted by State Governments and NGOs, including Maharashtra, and subject to the utilization of previous grants. |
