(a) whether Reserve Bank of India has issued licenses for setting up of Urban Cooperative Banks in the country; and

(b) if so, the details thereof, State-wise?

ANSWER

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE(SHRI NAMO NARAIN MEENA)

(a): The Reserve Bank of India (RBI)has reported that the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 was extended to Urban Cooperative Banks with effect from March 1, 1966 and accordingly RBI has issued licenses to Urban Co-operative Banks.

(b): The State-wise distribution of Urban Cooperative Banks as on March 31, 2009 is as under:
